Apulia in prehistoric times
Apulia in prehistoric times
By: Redazione CartApuliaThis itinerary takes us from north to south, through the evidences of prehistoric civilisation in Apulia. The first place we meet is Passo di Corvo, the largest Neolithic village of the Tavoliere. The prehistoric coastal settlements, the sanctuary in Trinitapoli dedicated to the fertility cults and the finds preserved in the Public Archaeological Museum of the Pulo tell the life of the communities of the hypogea. Then, in the Altamura National Archaeological Museum we come across the faithful reconstruction of the Neanderthal man, one of the most important paleontological finds together with "Delia", the Woman of Ostuni, preserved in the Museum of Pre-Classical Civilisations of the southern Murgia. Moving along the coast we reach Roca Vecchia, an important settlement of protohistory. Proceeding along the south coast of Otranto, we find the Grotta dei Cervi, (the Deer Cave) so called because of the portrayals still visible.
